Lincoln Hotels: Your Home Away from Home

Lincoln’s offering of hotels is vast, ever changing, and always exciting, innovative and welcoming.

Embassy Suitesis the perfect location for Nebraska Football tailgating. “Do the Dock” is a long standing, favorite tradition with football game ticket holders as well as those simply wanting to feel a part of the game day excitement. The Embassy is a downtown site for all day conferences, or meetings and provides a professional place to get away from the office and work undisturbed. Guest rooms overlook the special beauty of the Lincoln Embassy’s central trademark waterfall and garden atrium.

The Embassy invests up to a million dollars each year to update and rejuvenate their ballrooms, hotel rooms and lobby. This is immediately apparent when you first step into the hotel, from the friendly uniformed doormen under the large beautifully decorated portico; to the three front desks with cheerful majordomos to assist in finding your room, conference room or ballroom. They can also guide you to the best place to grab a bite to eat before you head out to that meeting or greet your fellow travelers. The ambiance of elegance and service is everywhere. By the way, the Embassy offers the largest available ballroom in Lincoln, and the parties there are grand.

They also have one of the best made to order complimentary breakfasts, and offer beverages and hors d’oeuvres in the evening for weary guests.

The Cornhusker Marriotthas a rich history in Lincoln. Its first incarnation was in the early 1900s. The current metamorphosis is grand on all levels. The long curving staircase is a beautiful backdrop for many photos—weddings, family reunions and those taken in remembrance of a truly magical stay at the Cornhusker Marriott.

Feeling refreshed after your comfortable night’s stay at the Cornhusker, start your morning off with a Starbucks coffee while visiting the gift shop. After visiting the sites of Lincoln, including perhaps a tour of the Capitol, you will find the perfect pub for relaxing with a burger and special beverage, specifically paired with each different sandwich in the Miller Time Pub located on the first floor of the Cornhusker.

Friendly doormen wait at the entrance to help you unload your car and they will take your car to parking to ease with your check in.

There are meetings rooms and ballrooms to host any type of occasion, and the staff are ready to meet your every need.

Courtyard Marriottis located at 808 R Street. I have heard this hotel described as fun. Your experience begins the moment you walk in the door. The open lobby space offers areas to unwind, work, read, meet with friends, or use the wireless high speed Internet access.

Media Pods are an area where you can watch the game with friends over a bottle of wine, or have a small meeting with Internet access at your fingertips. The Market, also located in the lobby offers convenience items such as soda and juice, chips and candy, along with freshly prepared items from The Bistro that you can grab on your way out, or microwave there, and continue reading or visiting with friends in the lobby as you eat.

Located directly outside of The Market is something called the GoBoard. This is a unique and interactive way to find out about upcoming events in the hotel, the arena and all over Lincoln. You can also find directions to local restaurants.

The Bistro is where you will find breakfast and dinner served daily. For breakfast, I prefer the traditional eggs, toast and bacon that I ordered. However, the strawberry French toast that I saw passing my table looked scrumptious! And for dinner enjoy fresh sandwiches and salads along with appetizers and drinks.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a cozy hotel located in the Historic Haymarket, moments from the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Stroll through the Haymarket on a crisp autumn evening and hear sounds of music coming from various establishments.

In the morning, welcome friends on the outdoor patio area and enjoy a cooked to order breakfast from the Garden Grill.

Just off of I-80 and 27th Street is Settle Inn. I have personally stayed in one of the tower rooms. This hotel offers the feel of a medieval castle, with all the comforts of home—plus the added benefit of maid service. The room I stayed in had a suit of armor, paintings of dragons and maidens, and a whirlpool bath.

It is a great place to stop while traveling along I-80, and also a place to get away from it all only a few miles from the heart of Lincoln. Breakfast is served each morning, and swimming and weight rooms are always open for your enjoyment.

Complimentary hot breakfasts each morning, and laundry service are but a few of the many extras you will find here. Many weeknights you will find new friends and good food at the complimentary social hour. The pool includes a spa, and there is also a 24-hour convenience store available to guests. Stroll outside and enjoy a scenic courtyard before you jump into the pool for a swim. The kids will enjoy all of the activities available here.

The Graduateis the newest incarnation of one of Lincoln’s finest hotels. Located at 9th and P streets in the historic Haymarket, it’s also within walking distance of the University of Nebraska. Many famous guests have stayed at this hotel, and it was one of the first choices for entertainers and performers passing through town.

This hotel offers “new retro” features. For instance, when you walk into your Queen room, don’t be surprised to see an old tube style television retro-fitted as your nightstand.  The lobby offers vintage décor including old pinball machines. JJ’s offers a tropical like atmosphere for dining and beverages. This hotel is a place you need to experience. It is liking walking back into that fabled simpler time in an old television show.

Country Inn and Suiteslocated near the airport offer business rates for travelers. Enjoy free Wi-Fi, breakfast and a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport. An indoor pool and outdoor hot tub are also available.

The Rogers Houseis located in the heart of one of Lincoln’s oldest and traditional neighborhoods. It is a favorite of my family when staying in Lincoln. Since 1984, Rogers House has offered elegant settings for any memorable occasion, and also hosts many weekenders.
